Dynamically simulates the annual energy consumption for a typical residential building in Shanghai using DeST software, and studies the influence of windowwall ratio in different building orientations. The results show that the total energy consumption for heating and air conditioning will increase with the greater east (west) or north windowwall ratio and that the total energy consumption will be reduced with the greater south windowwall ratio on condition that window shading and night ventilation in summer.
